Success Stories

Christian, a member of the DSAP, Down Syndrome Association of Peel
Before our son, Christian, was born we knew very little about Down Syndrome. Our story is a little interesting, as Christian was diagnosed when he was four months old. Our world instantly changed! We were fortunate to have amazing support along the way, from both family and professionals.

DSAP was a lifeline for us! We attended various information sessions that DSAP held over the years, from how to navigate the educational system as an advocate for our child, to speech and language development to holistic health. All of which, helped us better understand how to help Christian meet his full potential.

Our son has also participated in a reading program that was offered through DSAP and was geared to his personal learning. He was able to make gains with letter sound and recognition, along with learning to stay on task. DSAP’s community networking provided an opportunity for Christian to participate in Martial Arts and Boxing classes, which he loved!

DSAP has played an integral part in allowing us to create connections with families over the years and establishing a sense of community. Christian loves the annual holiday parties, where he gets to showcase his dance moves and of course the annual World Down Syndrome celebration events.

Christian is the heart of our family! He is incredibly charismatic, has a smile thats so infectious and dance moves like no other! DSAP encouraged us to continue creating awareness in our community and Christian continues to demonstrate to everyone that Down Syndrome does not define him! We are immensely proud of all his accomplishments and are incredibly grateful to be part of the DSAP family!

The Doctor Family

Our journey with DSAP started in 2018. We were introduced to them through Community Living of Mississauga. Over the years Christian has participated in the reading and speech/language programs offered. Our family and his school have seen development in these areas. Which resulted in an increase in his self confidence and independence.

DSAP also extends invitations to join in their annual family bbq, bowling night, family Christmas party and annual Gala dinner. In addition to the children having a social outlet to make new friendships. It also allows families to connect, network, share information, encourage and support each other.

The vibe is always welcoming and inclusive. Resulting in a safe space where you can be yourself. Just like home.
